This hybrid of the famous 'King Anthurium' combines the royal leaf of the veitchii with refined vigor or structure of another species. The result: a graceful but robust plant with strikingly textured leaves that grows just a little faster or adapts more easily than the pure species.
Origin
The original Anthurium veitchii originated in the rain forests of Colombia. This hybrid variety is artificially bred to improve certain traits, such as growth rate, leaf shape or resistance. The exact parent combination may vary from grower to grower.
Characteristics
This plant has elongated, drooping leaves with a distinctive ribbed surface reminiscent of pleated textiles.
The hybrid form often shows wider or slightly shorter leaves than the pure species, with a fresher shade of green or stronger grain. Adult leaves can reach up to 1 meter in length with optimal care.
Care
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause burn marks on the leaves.
Temperature
Feels best at 18-28 °C. Avoid drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.
Substrate
Use an aerated, well-draining mixture such as a mix of coarse bark, sphagnum, coconut chips and charcoal. Roots like oxygen-rich environments.
Humidity
This Anthurium prefers high humidity (above 60%). A humidifier or placement in a well-ventilated greenhouse container can help it grow healthy leaves.
Watering
Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Preferably use demineralized water or rainwater.
Feeding
During the growing season (spring and summer), you may apply a balanced fertilizer for aroids every 2-3 weeks at half strength.
Flowering
This hybrid is primarily loved for its foliage. Flowering rarely occurs in house conditions, but is possible under ideal conditions. The inflorescence is modest and white to greenish in color.
